Japanese Pokémon TCG Launches Tomorrow

I'm so excited to finally add in Japanese Pokémon cards. English and Japanese are my two main collecting surfaces, so I finally feel like the app I've made is starting to fully encapsulate all of the surfaces I collect on. The only thing missing now would be sealed products, but that'll be coming in a future update.

Japanese Cards

With the launch of Japanese cards, the way the sets page works will have to receive a bit of an overhaul. Currently there is a language toggle at the top, which enables you to choose between English sets or Japanese sets. Japanese sets will also get their own menu item added to the nav selector. I'm torn on if the pages stay as one, or get split. If anyone out there reads this and has an opinion, let me know via the Feedback button.

For sourcing, Japanese cards come with Yen market pricing for a good chunk of them, and by pulling from a few other sources I was able to add US Dollar pricing for a lot of the mid-era to modern cards, including a direct TCGplayer link where possible. TCGplayer is still growing its Japanese offering, so that coverage will only get better over time.

If you opt-in to English translation, we supply that adjacent to the original Japanese. Not all fields are translated though, so please bear that in mind.

One day, I'll add comments to these, and if you're reading this once they're enabled, let me know down below if you also collect Japanese cards! I've been thinking about trying to source Korean cards, but that'll be an undertaking in and of its own; that's probably saved for after multi-game support lands.

For now, or at least for tomorrow, I hope you enjoy being able to track your Japanese cards in my binder system! I know I for one am looking forward to my Pokémon binders being able to cross and show both English and Japanese cards, which is the master set that I am doing for Charmander.

What's next?

The next thing to follow after this will be a deep dive into cameo cards. One thing I have never been able to find is a card tracker site that takes the time to build that out, and well fortunately the amazing Pokémon community has several lists out there that I'll be combing through and tagging each Pokémon in, so that you can have an easy way to complete your individual Pokémon master sets. I hope you are as excited for that as I am.
